Before dying, John reveals that Chucky must transfer his soul to Andy to escape. During the final stand at the psychiatric hospital, Chucky kills Andy's doctor before escaping to the Barclay home. Norris arrives just as Karen and Andy set Chucky on fire, but the burned doll attacks again. Jack Santos refuses to believe them until Chucky bursts through a heat vent to attack him, prompting Norris to shoot the doll's heart through the vent, finally killing it.
